Sportpxl offers several identification algorithms tailored to different sporting contexts. Here is a quick reference guide to help you choose the right algorithm for your situation.
Face + Bib number #
For all sports where participants wear a clearly visible numbered bib.
- Running (10 km, half marathon, marathon)
- Trail running and ultra-trail running
- Triathlon and duathlon
- Road cycling (with race number)
- Cross-country and hunter riding (with bib)
- Cross-country skiing, biathlon
- Any sport with a numbered bib worn on the chest
💡 This is the algorithm that gives the best results — use it whenever your participants are wearing legible bibs.
Without a race number #
For sports without individual numbering, when the participants are not known in advance.
- Football, rugby, basketball, handball and team sports in general
- Horse riding (excluding events with bib numbers)
- Martial arts, combat sports, judo, karate
- Swimming, water sports
- Any event where participants do not wear numbers and are not listed in advance.
Workforce #
For sports clubs whose members are known and have a reference photo in Sportpxl.
- Club training sessions and matches during the season
- Internal tournaments
- Any recurring event with a stable group of participants
💡 The Roster algorithm requires that you have already created your roster with a reference photo for each athlete — see the article “Understanding roster management”.
Motorcycle #
For motorised two-wheeled sports with a visible number on the vehicle.
- Enduro, motocross, trial
- Motorcycle rally
- Any motorbike event with numbering on the vehicle
Car / Rally #
For four-wheeled motor sports with a visible number on the bodywork.
- Car rally, hill climb
- Endurance and circuit racing
- Karting with visible numbering
- Any motor vehicle event with identification numbers on the vehicle
Special cases #
Certain events require combining several algorithms on the same album:
- Photocall + event: import photos from the photocall using the Face + Bib algorithm, then photos from the event using No Bib — see the article "Getting the most out of algorithms with photocalls".
- Multi-event: import each event separately with the correct bib number settings — see the article "How to manage a multi-event".
- Cycling without a visible bib number: if the bib number is on the back of the jersey and rarely visible, the No Bib algorithm combined with a photocall may give better results than Face + Bib.
